Arguably the most colourful tarantula on earth. The Green Bottle Blue dazzles with its teal-blue legs, vivid orange abdomen and green carapace — a combination so striking it looks almost unreal. A New World species from the arid scrublands of Venezuela, it is a prolific webber and a bold, active presence in any collection. The colours intensify dramatically with each moult.

Keeping Guide
Housing
Arid terrestrial setup, minimum 30×30×30 cm. Provide deep substrate for burrowing, cork bark and driftwood for extensive webbing — GBBs are prolific webbers and will transform the entire enclosure into a silk fortress. Good cross ventilation on at least two sides is essential. Avoid excessive decoration as she will bury everything in silk anyway.
Temperature & Humidity
Room temperature is sufficient in most European homes (20–26°C), though slightly warmer (26–28°C) brings out the best colours and activity levels. Humidity low, 40–50% — keep substrate dry. Occasional overflow of the water dish is all the moisture needed. Mimics its arid Venezuelan scrubland habitat.
Feeding
Crickets, roaches or mealworms appropriate to body size. One of the most reliable and enthusiastic feeders in the hobby — rarely refuses food outside of premolt. Feed every 7–10 days and always remove uneaten prey promptly to avoid stress.
Handling
Not recommended — the GBB is fast, skittish and unpredictable. It is best enjoyed as a stunning display animal rather than a handling spider. The real reward is watching it web up its enclosure and display its extraordinary colours from a safe distance.
Experience Level
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy, undemanding and incredibly rewarding visually — the colours intensify dramatically with every moult. One of the most recommended species for keepers ready to move beyond their first tarantula.
